Who’s behind these Crazy Rumours?

The creators of Crazy Rumours are Edie and Brian Himmel, a couple from Brooklyn who began experimenting with flavoured lip balms in 2003. Their goal was to create wholesome, high-quality products with Imaginate flavours, and to shake up the lip balm market. By 2005, the company had lip balms in stores across New York, and by 2007 they had introduced the HibisKiss range of coloured lip balms.

Over the next few years the couple expanded the Crazy Rumours reach across more than 20 countries, but every balm is still handcrafted in small batches in Atlanta, Georgia. The balms are packaged in recyclable BPA-free containers that use 30% less plastic than conventional lip balm tubes, and the company uses wind power to supercharge their operations. They’re also careful to donate a portion of profits and products to charitable causes.

What goes into Crazy Rumours lip balm?

Every lip balm is made with plant-based ingredients, with real flavours extracted as essences from fruits, veggies, herbs, and spices. And they’re all natural food grade!

The base is made with organic shea butter – a rich source of vitamins A and E and known to protect the lips against ultraviolet rays. Other ingredients include macadamia seed oil, jojoba seed oil, and extra virgin olive oil, all of which help seal in moisture and soften and soothe skin that needs a little extra TLC.

Just as important as what’s in the lip balm, though, is what’s not in Crazy Rumours lip balms. All of Crazy Rumours lip balms are free from animal products and never tested on animals, making them truly vegan-friendly. They’re Vegan certified and Leaping Bunny approved by Cruelty Free International.

The lip balms are always free from synthetic flavours, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), parabens, and gluten. They’re not oily, waxy, or annoyingly thin when applied. Instead, they feel clean and nourishing.

So, how do Crazy Rumours avoid using beeswax, so their lip balms are vegan-friendly? Easy. They use plant-based candelilla wax, non-GMO soy wax, and organic carnauba wax instead. These natural waxes add a creaminess to the lip balm and form a protective layer to lock in moisture and prevent chapped lips.

If you’re looking for lip balm with a little shimmer, Crazy Rumours have you covered. But don’t worry, there’s no microplastic glitter involved. Instead, they use non-nano mica, which is a natural, pearlescent mineral pigment that doesn’t harm your health or the environment.

As for other pigments, you’ll only find natural ingredients here too, including non-nano iron oxide, non-nano titanium dioxide (a natural sunblock), and others.

To add a hint of sweetness to the lip balms, Crazy Rumours use naturally low-calorie stevia instead of the more common synthetic sweetener sodium saccharin. And finally, for extra lip protection, Crazy Rumours also include the natural antioxidant vitamin E, which also helps to preserve the lip balms without need for artificial preservatives. The shelf life is lab-tested and approved for 24 months, but Crazy Rumours suggest you use their products within 18 months after opening.
