Obbekjaers Peppermint Oil

Peppermint is a long-standing traditional remedy for digestive complaints, with peppermint tea helpful for gentle relief of mild indigestion and gas. If you’re looking for something a bit stronger though, Obbekjaers Peppermint Oil is a great option.

Based in Wigan, Lancashire, Bennett Natural Products are the worldwide suppliers of Obbekjaers Peppermint Oil products, which are manufactured in Denmark. Ever wondered how to pronounce Obbekjaers? You’re not alone! Try saying it as Obb-a-cares. Or just come into the store and ask for peppermint oil - we’ll help you find it!

Obbekjaers have been making peppermint oil supplements for over 25 years and their products have even been used in clinical trials for irritable bowel syndrome at two leading hospitals in Denmark.

Peppermint oil for digestive relief

Numerous clinical trials have looked at the benefits of peppermint oil capsules for relief of symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other digestive complaints. Around 1 in 7 people suffer from IBS, making it the most common digestive disorder in the UK.

One of the main issues in IBS is hypercontractility of intestinal smooth muscle, i.e., muscles in the gut that we can’t control voluntarily. Thankfully, peppermint oil can help relax smooth muscles and prevent these unwanted muscle contractions, helping to relieve cramps and digestive discomfort.

Peppermint oil has also been seen to (Review here):

  • Promote the secretion of digestive factors
  • Reduce visceral sensitivity (i.e., help relieve pain in the gut)
  • Exert antimicrobial effects
  • Help with inflammation management
  • Make colonoscopies and endoscopies easier
  • Relieve functional abdominal pain in children
  • Help with postoperative nausea
  • Offer relief from nausea and heartburn in pregnancy
  • Help combat overgrowth of Candida albicans (which is implicated in many cases of IBS).

The Obbekjaers range

Obbekjaers peppermint oil supplements include Extra Strength Peppermint Oil capsules containing 200 mg of pure peppermint oil in a sunflower seed oil base. The typical dose is one capsule daily before a meal, but you can take up to three capsules daily if extra support is needed.

Obbekjaers also offer Peppermint Oil in powder form, mixed with dextrose. One level teaspoon can be taken three times a day mixed with a half glass of warm water to help with indigestion and relief of other gastrointestinal symptoms.

The company also offers Japanese Peppermint Oil ideal for external use. This can also be taken internally with warm water but is typically massaged into the skin to relieve aches, pains, cramps, and stiff joints. The peppermint oil helps to warm and sooth as it is absorbed into the skin and muscles.
