Description
Krill oil is extracted from small shrimp-like crustaceans (Euphausia superba) that live in large numbers in the cold polar waters. These crustaceans feed on plankton and algae. Krill oil contains the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA in the very important phospholipid form. The cell membranes
of the cells in the body largely consist of phospholipids. The fatty acids (in their natural form) in fish
oil entirely consist of triglycerides that the body needs to convert into phospholipids first.
Once dissolved, phospholipids form emulsions easily because of their special structure (fat-soluble and water-soluble part). This facilitates absorption of these fatty acids in the gastrointestinal tract tremendously. Hence krill oil can be administered in lower doses than fish oil. Krill oil is also more stable than fish oil because it is rich in powerful antioxidants, such as astaxanthin.
Krill oil is especially important for the brain, the tissue richest in phospholipids.
The krill used in this product has been harvested in the ocean around Antarctica. This ocean has the cleanest seawater found on this planet. That is why this krill (oil) is naturally low in heavy metals, PCBs and other contaminants. The harvesting method, in which the catching of fish, birds and other marine animals is avoided, has been developed in cooperation with the World Wildlife Fund.
Most important characteristics of Krill oil 500 mg:
- Rich in the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA in their natural phospholipid form
- Faster and better absorption than with fatty acids from fish oil
- Extracted at a low temperature, keeping the fatty acids intact
- Rich in the antioxidant astaxanthin – the dark colour of the capsules is caused by astaxanthin
- Much less susceptible to oxidation than fish oil due to its high level of antioxidants
- Responsibly harvested in the waters surrounding Antarctica
-
Naturally low in heavy metals, PCBs and other contaminants
